Banhart’s 15 years of freakish folk-pop surpass this perceived identity as the aesthetic mascot of hipsterdom, though the aforementioned look probably launched a thousand memes. On his recent standup special Live in Portland, Braunger even manages to make “wokeness”-the most exhausted comedic topic of the decade, I’d argue-feel fresh and funny.
